Brockton man killed in fiery crash on Route 24 in West Bridgewater

WEST BRIDGEWATER — Massachusetts State Police responded to a fiery crash scene on Route 24 north at around 3:04 a.m. on Friday, where they found a 2017 Ford Explorer on fire with the operator trapped inside, according to a written statement.

The operator of the vehicle is believed to have been "traveling at a high rate of speed," and was found deceased on arrival, police said.

According to state troopers, the vehicle "went off the right side of the road and struck a tree, for reasons still under investigation."

The operator of the vehicle was a 43-year-old Brockton man and the passenger is a 40-year-old Taunton woman. The woman was transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.

The State Police-Middleborough Barracks, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Detective Unit for Plymouth County are investigating the crash.
