Broncos OLB Chubb out for season with torn ACL

Denver Broncos' outside linebacker Bradley Chubb suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and will miss the remainder of the season.

Broncos head coach Vic Fangio called the injury a "huge loss" for the winless Broncos.

"He's one of our better players, obviously. He's a tempo setter, great player, great person, leader and all that. So, it is a loss," Fangio said. "There's no pity parties in the NFL, we've just got to keep going. The losses are our own doing. Injuries don't have an effect on those. We've just got to keep going. Nobody is feeling sorry for anybody here. Just another one of the things you have to deal with in the NFL during a season. We're not the only team that's had them."

Chubb, 23, was the fifth overall pick in the 2018 draft out of NC State. He left the game twice on Sunday, first due to a cramp and then again when his knee locked up while engaging with a Jaguars offensive lineman.

"Well, he did have cramps, that was separate," Fangio clarified Monday. "He did hurt his knee at some point in the game, but he felt good enough to come back in. Actually, he played that last series pretty well, had some really good pass rushes and caused that fumble that we weren't able to get. He was as surprised, I think, as everybody this morning when he woke up feeling the way he did."

Chubb, who had 12 sacks and 60 tackles last year, posted his first sack of this season against Jacksonville. He had played all four regular-season games and three preseason games this year for Denver, recording 21 tackles (16 solo).

Without Chubb, the Broncos will likely look to rookies Malik Reed and Justin Hollins to fill the spot opposite Von Miller.

The Broncos are 0-4 this season and next face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
