UNION CITY, MI. — The Bronson Vikings put a nice neat bow on their undefeated Big 8 conference dual meet schedule Wednesday night, rolling past their final two opponents in the Concord Yellow Jackets and the Homer Trojans to finish the 2022-23 Big 8 schedule at 7-0 overall.

To kick off the evening the Vikings took care of business quick versus Homer, winning by the score of 71-6.

Bronson took wins in the first nine bouts to put the dual away early, leading 49-0 after the initial surge.

The dual started at 138 pounds where Layne Knisely defeated Homer’s Kaden Zienert via pin fall in 4:50, followed by a a hard fought 6-4 decision win for Gabe Erwin over Alex Miller at 150 pounds.

To continue the run the Vikings saw Drew Seekman defeat Homer’s Jordan Kulikowski via pin fall in :44 seconds at 150 pounds, followed by Mason Lindsey earning a pin fall win at 157 pounds over Homer’s Addison Easter in 3:23, extending the lead to 21-0.

Bronson continued to add to their lead at 165 pounds as Carson Norton earned a 10-2 major decision over Homer’s Jacob Fisher, extending the lead to 25-0.

In a match of two of the very best in the conference at 171 pounds it was Bronson’s Jacob Britten earning the pin fall victory over Homer’s Harley Robinson in 1:52, pushing the lead to 31-0.

Bronson took three more wins in a row to continually extend the lead, starting with a pin fall win for Jacob Dixon over Homer’s TJ West at 190 pounds in :36 seconds. At 215 pounds it was Mathew Blankenship defeating Homer’s Hunter Depew via pin fall in 1:22, followed by Jayden Post accepting a void at 285 pounds, pushing the Viking lead to an insurmountable 49-0.

Homer finally got on the board at 106 pounds as Landon Winder earned a pin fall win over Bronson’s Jason Greenfield in :26 seconds, bringing the score to 49-6.

Bronson capped off the victory with four straight wins, staring with an Aiden Fill 12-4 major decision win over Zionah Gardner at 113 pounds; an Owen Kimmons pin fall in 2:27 at 120 pounds over Austin Owens; Perry Lake with a pin fall win over Kyle Larder in 1:23 at 126 pounds; and finally it was Logan Long earning a pin fall win over Isaiah Sullivan at 132 pounds in :57 seconds, finding the final score of 71-6.

Bronson capped off the night with another dominant win, this time rolling past the Concord Yellow Jackets for a 78-3 win.

Bronson took advantage of 10 voids throughout the 14 weight class for a total of 60 points. Earning wins via void for Bronson was Aiden Fill at 113 pounds; Perry Lake at 126 pounds; Logan Long at 132 pounds; Gabriel Erwin at 144 pounds; Dakota Miller at 150 pounds; Mason Lindsey at 157 pounds; Carson Norton at 165 pounds; Jacob Britten at 175 pounds; Jacob Dixon at 190 pounds; and Matthew Blankenship at 215 pounds.

Earning wins on the mat for Bronson was Jayden Post with a pin fall win over Concord’s Ben Reiniche in 2:57 at 285 pounds; Owen Kimmons wth a pin all win over Jordyan Metcalf in 1:03 at 120 pounds; and Layne Knisely with a pin fall win over Collin Thompson in 1:19 at 138 pounds.

Also wrestling for Bronson was Jason Greenfield who dropped a 9-2 decision at 106 pounds while Everardo Lozada earned a pin fall win at 285 pounds over Concord’s Isiah Kreuger in :48 seconds in an exhibition match.

Bronson will now look to wrap up sole possession of the Big 8 conference crown with a trip to Quincy and the Big 8 Conference Championship on Saturday. Bronson will come away with sole possession of first place in the conference as long as they finish in either first or second place in the tournament, with the Reading Ranger the only team with a long shot chance of catching them. In order for Reading to claim a share of the title Bronson would have to finish third or worse while the Rangers would have to win the tournament outright. Wrestling kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Quincy High School.
