Bronson XC boys finish 3rd, girls take 4th at Otsego Bulldog Invite

OTSEGO, MI. — The Bronson Vikings and the Quincy Orioles traveled to Otsego High School on Saturday to compete in the Otsego Bulldog Cross Country Invitational, one of the largest invitationals in the state as Otsego welcomed over 60 teams across multiple divisions to compete. (Coldwater also competed in the event, their results will appear in a different article)

Bronson and Quincy both competed in the Division Three portion of the invitational along with 11 other schools from around the state.

In the women’s division it was Bronson leading the local contingent of teams, finishing in fourth place overall with a score of 89 points. Quincy finished in seventh place, notching a score of 167 points. Kalamazoo Homeschool took home the championship, winning with a minuscule score of 37 points. Schoolcraft finished in second place with 84 points, followed by Fennville in third place with 88 points. Bronson finished in fourth, followed by Delton Kellogg, Parchment, Quincy and Comstock. Also competing but falling just short of the required amount of runners to qualify for the team score was Bloomingdale, Centreville, and Lawton.

Bronson had two runners finish in the top 10 of the competition, as sophomore Ava Hathaway and freshman Ashlynn Harris paced each other throughout the 3.1 course on their way to a third and fourth place finish respectively. Hathaway finished in third place overall, taking the bronze medal with a time of 20 minuets, 1.45 seconds while Harris finished just behind in fourth place in a time of 20 minutes, 37.27 seconds.

Rounding out the Bronson effort was Lydia Wells in twenty-eighth place in a time of 24 minutes, 1.77 seconds; Abbi Ferry in thirty-fifth place in a time of 25 minutes, 15.25 seconds; and Kiera Kiser in forty-eighth place in a time of 27 minutes, 5.13 seconds.

Quincy’s seventh place effort was paced by junior Sadie Miller who finished in the medals with a twenty-third place finish, crossing the line in a time of 23 minutes, 27.29 seconds.

Also running well for the Orioles was Elizabeth Craig in thirty-ninth place in a time of 25 minutes, 58.10 seconds; Brooke McVicker in forty-fourth place in a time of 26 minutes, 44.18 seconds; Kailey Allman in fiftieth place in a time of 27 minutes, 32.86 seconds; and Abby Miller in sixty-second place in a time of 30 minutes, 12.76 seconds.Lawton’s Kendar Koster finished in first place in the individual race in a blistering time of 19 minutes, 19.35 seconds while teammate Sofia Oertel finished in second place in a time of 19 minutes, 58.65 seconds.

In the men’s division it was Bronson leading the local teams, finishing in third place overall with a score of 82 points. Quincy did not field enough runners to qualify for the team standings. Kalamazoo Homeschool took home the championship with a score of 48 points, followed by Kalamazoo Christian in second place with 62 points. Bronson finished in third, followed by Bloomingdale, Delton Kellogg, Parchment, Fennville and Schoolcraft. Quincy, Comstock, Lawton and Centreville did not qualify for the team standings.

Bronson’s third place effort was paced by two top 10 finishes and another finish inside the top 20. Leading the way for Bronson was senior Aden Hathaway who finished in sixth place overall in a time of 17 minutes, 48.47 seconds. Not far behind was senior teammate Ashton Wells who finished in eighth place in a time of 18 minutes, 1 second.Earning a top 20 finish for the Vikings was sophomore Tyler Wilber who finished in seventeenth place in a time of 18 minutes, 42.19 seconds.

Also helping in the scoring for Bronson was Tanner Norton in twenty-seventh place in a time of 19 minutes, 15.84 seconds and Perry Lake in thirty-second place in a time of 19 minutes, 22.94 seconds.

Rounding out the Bronson effort was Hugo Barajas in thirty-fourth place; Jacob Britten in thirty-sixth place; Drew Seekman in forty-third place; Nicholas Cranson in forty-fifth place; Phoenix Haviland in fifty-third place; Jason Greenfield in fifty-sixth place; and Derk Zitting in sixty-third place.

Quincy only had two runners make the trip to Otsego, led by senior Caden Troxtle who finished in forty-seventh place in a time of 20 minutes, 38.00 seconds. Also running well for the Orioles was junior Nathan Richer who finished in sixty-eighth place in a time of 22 minutes, 41.90 seconds.

William Winter of Parchment took home the individual gold medal, winning the race with a time of 16 minutes, 52.32 seconds. Finishing in second place was Bloomingdale’s Jaden Barnes who crossed the line in a time of 17 minutes, 0.42 seconds.

Both Bronson and Quincy will be back in action on Tuesday when they head to Union City for another Big 8 Jamboree.
