This past Saturday the MHSAA crowned four champions to put a cap on an exciting 2021 Volleyball season. Ascending to the top of the mountain in their respective divisions were Bloomfield Hills Marian who took the crown in Division One, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep who won Division Two, Reese who captured the title in Division Three, and Battle Creek St. Philip who won in Division Four.

With the 2021 season now complete the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) released their 2021 All State honors and a number of local athletes earned recognition.

One local athlete earned Division Three First Team All State honors as Bronson senior libero Jadyn Cary was named to her second straight All State team.

Cary was the centerpiece of the Bronson defensive effort in 2021, leading the team in digs while serving as a calming and steady influence on the court. Many times throughout a match Cary could be seen digging kills attempts or serves nearly impossible to reach, keeping numerous points alive throughout the season for the Vikings. The libero position is often overlooked on the volleyball court however when you have a game changer such as Cary in that spot, it quickly becomes one of the most important positions in volleyball.

Also earning All-State honors from the Vikings was sophomore setter Brealyn Lasky who was named to the Division Three All-State Second Team.

Lasky comes from a long line of not only All-State setters at Bronson but also a long line of volleyball powerhouses in the Lasky family. Brealyn’s three older sisters in Addyson, Kiera and Meagan all earned All-State honors during their respective years, with Kiera and Meagan currently playing at the collegiate level. Brealyn continues that tradition, earning a place on the D3 Second Team. Lasky ran an efficient and diverse offense for the Viking attack, leading the team in assists while also working as a force at the net and at the service line. Only a sophomore except Lasky to be a stalwart on the MIVCA All-State teams for years to come.

The final All-State honoree from Bronson came in the form of freshman middle hitter Aubree Calloway.

Calloway spent her first year playing high school volleyball doing so for one of the best varsity programs in the state and she showed little to no growing pains. Calloway was a force from day one in the middle of the Bronson lineup with her booming kills and key blocks. With her height, athleticism and volleyball IQ the rookie is a superstar in the making at Bronson and will surely see her name on a number of All-State teams in the future.

The Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) also announced their academic awards and Bronson senior Kaylee Withington was recognized for her work in the classroom.

The Individual Academic All State honor is awarded to seniors who have achieved a grade point average of 3.70 or higher throughout their entire high school career. Withington has not only been a key piece to the Bronson attack on the court, earning Big 8 All Conference Honorable Mention honors this season, but she is also a superstar in the classroom. Congratulations to Kaylee Withington on her Academic All State honor.
