Bronson's Knisely voted as TDR Athlete of the Week
Ladies and Gentleman welcome to another week of Winter Sports action here in Branch County.
The sports of basketball, wrestling, competitive cheer, swim and dive, bowling and gymnastics are in full swing, with great moments happening every night all across our great county.
Each week, you the readers have the opportunity to vote for who you believe to have the best performance, with fan voting determining The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week.
Well the votes are in for the week of Jan. 9 through Jan. 15 and the readers have spoken. So without further ado, introducing this week’s The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week brought to you by ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital, Omega Physical Therapy and Coldwater Chiropractic and Wellness Center, Bronson wrestling freshman Layne Knisely. Knisely won the award based on the fan vote, receiving 34% of the votes.
Last week Knisely had an absolutely huge week on the mats, going unbeaten in Big 8 dual meet action, a streak that included a meet clinching win over rival Union City.
On top of that, not to be outdone, Knisely took to the mat at last weekend’s Clark Walker Memorial Invite and finished undefeated at 5-0 for the tournament, earning Bronson wrestler of the week honors as well. This week Knisely continues his unbeaten ways, taking two wins at the Vikings latest Big 8 double dual held at Quincy.
Knisely is currently 17-3 on the season according to trackwrestling.com and is only getting better each time he steps on the mat. Knisely will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come for the Hammern Vikes as he already serves as one of the best light weight wrestlers in the conference.
Other local athletes earning votes in this week’s The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week poll were Coldwater bowler Lily Cook, Quincy wrestler Jacob Reif, Union City basketball junior Jeremy Zehr, Quincy senior basketball player Riley Miner, and Coldwater senior hooper Donte Work.
