Bronx neighborhood on edge after scooter shooting leaves 1 dead, 3 injured

MOUNT EDEN, the Bronx (PIX11) — Bronx neighbors are on edge as police search for two gunmen who shot four men at a busy intersection Tuesday evening.

Two gunmen and their getaway drivers are being sought in connection with the fatal shooting that happened at East Mount Eden and Townsend avenues in Mount Eden around 6:15 p.m., according to the NYPD.

The shooters, who were sitting on the backs of scooters, sprayed 10 rounds into the busy intersection, police said. The shooting was targeted, sources said.

A 23-year-old man, a 31-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were all shot in the leg, according to authorities. A 29-year-old man, identified by police as Miguel Doleo, was shot in the chest and killed.

“The perpetrators wore masks and hoodies to block their identities. And then they fled on the scooters northbound on Townsend Avenue toward the Cross Bronx Expressway,” NYPD Assistant Chief Benjamin Gurley said.

Bronx mother Lucette Clermont said just walking down a street with her 4-year-old son is a big risk in her neighborhood of Mount Eden.

“I feel terrified,” Clermont said. “I feel really disappointed that not enough attention is being given to people irresponsibly riding scooters in the street. We are actually more afraid of the scooters than cars.”

Elizabeth McLeod, who is also a mother, believes more needs to be done.

“It’s really bad. It’s just getting out of control,” McLeod said. “Something has to be done. We have to worry about our kids. We as parents have to go to work, and we don’t need all this stress in our heads.”

Clermont said the shooting forced the community to cancel an outdoor street fair scheduled for Saturday. Instead, the festivities will be moved indoors.
