Brookfield police identifying victims of secret filming inside women's locker room at Elite Sports Club
Brookfield police are continuing to investigate after a suspect was arrested for allegedly hiding a camera and secretly filming women inside a locker room at Brookfield's Elite Sports Club.
A February statement from Elite Sports Club said a team member noticed a camera behind a mirror in the women's locker room. Management notified the Brookfield Police Department, and an arrest was made within hours.
"The apparent perpetrator was not a member or team member but was a contractor from a company who we have used in the past without any problem or indication of a potential problem," the statement said.
A Friday news release from the Brookfield Police Department said detectives have "located evidence that leads us to believe a number of potential victims exist."
"The exact number is still being determined. We will continue to work with Elite Sports Club to attempt to identify those potential victims," the release said.
Brookfield Police said the suspect is the only person they believe filmed inside the locker room. Police have not released the suspect's name, and that person has not yet been charged.
A newsletter from the gym, 13825 W. Burleigh Road, provided more information about the investigation.
That newsletter, which was sent to a reporter Friday, said police have identified two dates that the suspect secretly recorded others: Nov. 26, 2021, and February 18, 2022.
"It appears 8 to 9 women have been found on the phone, but only one individual was compromised," the newsletter said.
The newsletter said management has provided police with a list of women who were at the club on those dates.
"We have continued to conduct thorough inspections of the locker rooms and other areas at each of our clubs and have found no suspect issues," the newsletter added.
Brookfield Police said a similar incident, which occurred around the same time at the Wisconsin Athletic Club in the Town of Brookfield, is unrelated. A warrant was issued for Peng Dong in that incident after he allegedly recorded both minors and adults inside a handful of local Wisconsin Athletic Club locker rooms.
Police allege Dong recorded 542 victims with a hidden camera. At least nine of those victims appear to be 10 years old or younger, according to a criminal complaint. He could face decades in prison and more than $100,000 in fines if convicted.
The three Wisconsin Athletic Club locations Dong recorded at were the Brookfield location, 20075 Water Tower Blvd., the Wauwatosa location, 8700 Watertown Plank Road, and the Glendale location, 7601 N. Port Washington Road.
