Brooklyn boy, 12, beaten by a stranger with a crutch

A 12-year-old boy was randomly beaten with a crutch wielded by a stranger on a Brooklyn street, police said Tuesday.

The child was walking alone, nearing the corner of St. Paul’s Court and St. Paul’s Place in Flatbush about 7:40 a.m. on Thursday when a man in a black knit hat, sunglasses and a black surgical mask ran up to him with a crutch in hand, cops said.

The man slammed the boy in the face with the crutch and stormed off, authorities said.

The child suffered a deep cut, but wasn’t seriously harmed. Afterward, the young victim ran home and told his grandfather, who called cops.

Police sources said the pre-teen didn’t know his assailant and that the man said nothing during the beating.

The attacker was last seen running south on St. Paul’s Place. Investigators searching the area recovered surveillance footage of the man, still holding the broken crutch.

Deputy Inspector Bruce Ceparano, the commanding officer of the 70th Precinct, posted a surveillance image of the man on Twitter on Tuesday.

Anyone with information regarding the assailant’s whereabouts is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
