Brooklyn Lyons, Billie Jo Shehorn receive Cornell honors

CORNELL — Brooklyn Lyons and Billie Jo Shehorn were named as the December Students of the Month at Cornell Grade School recently.

Named as the student of the month in the kindergarten-fourth grade group was Brooklyn Lyons. She is the daughter of Brittany and Korie Lyons of rural Cornell. Nominating Brooklyn Lyons were teachers by Heidi Johnson and Andrew Goodwin.

Billie Jo Shehorn, daughter of Crystal Myers, Cornell, was selected as the student from fifth through eighth grade. She was nominated by teacher Karen Austin, Leslie Coughlin and Kendra Nelson.

At an all-school assembly, each student received a student of the month certificate, Walmart gift card and will have their picture on display in the main hallway at Cornell Grade School.

Cornell Grade School selects two students, one from kindergarten through fourth grade and one from fifth through eighth grade, each month. Students are selected based on demonstration of a good attitude, respect for others, dependability, hard work, volunteerism, honesty, trustworthiness and leadership.
