‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine': Jake Goes Full John McClane-‘Die Hard’ in First NBC Trailer (Video)

What the hell is Andy Samberg doing? “Something magnificent, that’s what.”

In the first NBC trailer for Season 6 of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Jake Peralta (Samberg) is living out his life-long dream of becoming an action hero. And (in his mind) he’s even more amazing than John McClane in “Die Hard.”

The one-minute, 45-second promo for the former Fox comedy’s first year on its new network sees the world’s biggest “Die Hard” fan coming to the Nine-Nine’s rescue, by sending Terry (Terry Crews), Amy (Melissa Fumero) and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) repelling off the roof of a building that’s about to explode, as Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) and Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) look on in amazement.

Don’t worry, though — Jake has a plan to save himself.

In “3… 2… 1… SLOW MO,” he jumps off the roof toward a helicopter, just as the skyscraper blows, and manages to grab the chopper in midair.

He’s the envy of the precinct. He’s loved by Amy. He has bigger muscles than Terry. He’s braver than Rosa in every way.

“Jake is the finest cop in the city. Nay, the world!” Holt declares.

Then everyone chants Jake for a “full uninterrupted minute” — and that’s the new recruitment video for Brooklyn’s 99th precinct.

Well, Jake is hoping he has sold the squad on his fantasy, as the camera cuts to show Peralta pitching the team his idea for the promo with action figures.

“No,” Holt says.

Yeah, Jake’s plan probably was never going to work — as is evident by a second version of the NBC trailer, which shows the pitch go over just as poorly as it did the first time, but this one includes Holt’s idea for the recruitment video. And it’s, uh, different.
