Young M.A, the Brooklyn-born rapper known for the multiplatinum-selling 2016 song “Ooouuu,” is sharing a health update after a viral video caused concern within the hip hop community.

“As many of my supporters know, I’ve been dealing with various personal health issues the last few years,” the lyricist, whose real name is Katorah Kasanova Marrero, shared on Instagram Wednesday evening.

“I recently was hospitalized and was successfully treated for several conditions,” she shared. “I’m doing better now, will take some time but I’m on the road to recovery and look forward to the future!!!”

A clip of the openly gay MC surfaced on social media this week, showing her with yellow eyes and discolored skin while visiting a barbershop. The clip caused much concern among her fans.

While Young M.A didn’t disclose specifics on exactly what ailments she’s been dealing with, she assured fans not to worry.

“I’m in good spirits and everything will be explained in the MUSIC ... plus a documentary,” she teased.

Some fans have suggested that the 30-year-old rapper could be suffering from jaundice, which is when the whites of the eyes turn yellow. One cause of jaundice is cirrhosis of the liver.

In June 2021, Young M.A announced on Instagram in a now-deleted post that she had checked herself into rehab to “lose this addiction,” however she didn’t share exactly what type of addiction she was struggling with.

Though she has adamantly denied drug abuse in the past, many of her lyrics have discussed overindulging in alcohol.
