Brooks Brothers Closes Store In Darien: Report

DARIEN, CT — Iconic preppy clothier Brooks Brothers has permanently closed its women's store in Westport and its full store in Darien, reports the Greenwich Time.

The New York Times writes that the company also is planning to close its three United States factories in New York, Massachusetts and North Carolina, which would mean its clothes will no longer carry the Made in America designation.

All the company's U.S. stores have been closed temporarily due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but are expected to reopen in the near future. Those Darien and Westport stores, however, will not reopen.

Brooks Brothers still has a men's store in Westport, across Main Street from the women's boutique, and it will continue to operate stores on Greenwich Avenue, the Stamford Town Center and Danbury Fair Mall, among a few other Connecticut locations.

The company reportedly is considering filing for bankruptcy, potentially joining the likes of J.Crew and J.C. Penney, among others, as retailers reel from slowing sales and coronavirus closures.
