Broomfield hosting annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Picnic

May 26—The annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Picnic will be held once again in Broomfield this year.

Held each year on Memorial Day, the picnic and ceremony will take place Monday in Broomfield Commons Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"It's really an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of those who have served in the military," Broomfield's History Coordinator David Allison said.

In addition to the opportunity for a picnic, the event will include patriotic music from the likes of the Rocky Mountain Brass and the Broomfield Civic Chorus.

Allison said that Broomfield and Colorado have played important roles in multiple wars, including the Battle of Glorieta Pass in the Civil War. In addition, the Broomfield community has strong ties with veterans, as many of its original residents were veterans.

Those same resident veterans opened the Veteran's Museum in Broomfield, which is sponsoring the event.

"This is really an opportunity for the community to come out to honor veterans, but then also honor those who have given their lives. It's just a really special thing for the community," Allison said.
