A Broward County doctor was arrested Tuesday on charges that he sent nude photos of himself to a 13-year-old. He’s the second local doctor in recent days to be accused of a crime involving a child.

Stewart Bitman, 64, is a gastroenterologist affiliated with many hospitals in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. A SWAT team carried out a search of his Parkland home on Tuesday morning, taking the doctor into custody and seizing numerous electronic devices.

Sheriff’s detectives worked with the Coral Springs Police Department after learning in April that Bitman allegedly sent a number of sexual text messages and nude photos of himself to the child, according to a statement from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives believe Bitman knew he was communicating with a child and say he portrayed himself as a teenage boy as part of his solicitation.

This is the second time in two weeks that a Broward doctor living in Parkland has been arrested on child pornography allegations. The cases are unrelated.

On Jan. 12, a pediatrician, Micahael Mizrachy, was arrested by the Sheriff’s Office on allegations that he sent nude photos of himself to a child. He is accused of photographing girls while they were sleeping or at a pool party.

Authorities say he downloaded a disturbing video of a man with a child who is believed to be 8 to 10 years old.

In Bitman’s case, he faces three counts of transmission of material harmful to a minor and one count of solicitation of a minor. Detectives are working to identify additional victims with whom Bitman may have communicated.

Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case or anyone whose child may have been a victim of Bitman to contact Detective Jennifer Montgomery at 954-888-5290. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
