Broward Supervisor of Elections primary recount underway, could take 10 to 12 hours

The ballot counting machines were humming at the Broward Supervisor of Elections office in Lauderhill as the primary race between the top two contenders for the Supervisor of Elections post was being decided.

Of the six-person race for the job, Joe Scott is leading with 24.84% of the vote, or 51,557 votes. Chad Klitzman received 24.54% of the vote, or 50,950 votes.

If the difference is less than .5% that means a machine recount, said Steven J. Vancore, a Broward elections spokesman.

“We have several hundred thousand ballots cast so they’re running them through the machines [and] it’s a very laborious process,” he said Saturday. “It started at 9 a.m. [and] they should be at it 10 to 12 hours.”
