Brown notches first perfect game bowling in Abilene league

The Greater Abilene U.S. Bowling Congress had its first reported honor score of the 2022-23 season, which started Aug. 1.

David Brown bowled his first 300 game on Oct. 27 in the Primetime Fun Fun Fun League.

When I spoke with David, he said he was really hitting the pocket solid with the first 11 balls.

When he picked up his ball for the 12th delivery, the nerves came into play, and it hit him that this was going to be the most important delivery of his life.

When he stepped on the approach his knees started to shake and his heart was pounding.

For those of you that have seen David bowl, he rolls a very nice hooking ball. The ball came of his hand, and it was right down the middle of the lane. His head dropped, because he was a little off his target.

The ball was headed toward the head pin.

At the last moment, the ball hit the 1-2 pocket, better known as a Brooklyn strike.

Now the perfect game is part of David’s bowling history.

David started his bowling career in the youth leagues at Pro Bowl and Whitewood Lanes.

By the way, David was rolling a Purple Hammer.

I spoke with David’s wife, Andrea, and she did not get to witness the feat. She was attending a friend’s birthday party. She arrived at the center shortly after and was overjoyed for her other half. David’s father, Michael, is a team member, and he is very proud of his offspring.

Michael can really brag now because of David’s 300 game and his son Daniel’s conversion of a 7-10 split.

On David’s bucket list is another perfect game and couple of 800 series.

Way to go David.

IN MEMORY OF

On Oct. 10, Abilene and the bowling community lost Michael Soto. Michael was dedicated to his family and the bowlers of our city.

I have had the honor for the last 15 years of requesting donations though Michael from Toyota of Abilene to support The Greater Abilene TX Annual Men’s Championship Tournament. He always came through with the donations. He was also a strong supporter of placing ads in the association’s Yearbook.

All the bowlers and I will miss bowling with Michael and his jokes. Rest in Peace Mr. Michael Soto.
