Brownies Diner in Wayne is getting demolished for a chicken restaurant

A fried chicken restaurant is replacing Brownies Diner.

The city of Wayne will soon have a new franchise restaurant −Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken − that will replace the old Brownies Diner on Michigan Avenue on the edge of downtown, according to an article by Hometown Life.

What was Brownie's Diner?

Brownies Diner, originally named Browns Diner, was opened by Melvin and Buela Brown in 1940, according to a Facebook post by the Wayne Historical Society.

Browns Diner was originally housed in an old streamlined passenger train car and adopted the name "Brownies." By 1950, the owners got rid of the streamlined passenger car and built a building for the restaurant.

In the 1970s, the Browns sold the business and it gained new ownership.

Before they closed, Brownies was known for its affordable prices, breakfast, and Friday fish fry events.

When did Brownie's Diner close?

Brownies Diner closed around 2010 according to a Facebook post from the Wayne Historical Society.

It's unclear why the diner shut down completely.

What is Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken?

Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken is replacing the space once owned and operated by Brownies Diner.

This restaurant is known for its fried chicken, livers and gizzards, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a variety of other sides.

Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken plans to open a drive-through location in the space of the old Brownies Diner according to the article from Hometown Life.

Where is Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken located?

There is currently only one in metro Detroit located in Plymouth at 1122 West Ann Arbor Rd. Other Michigan locations are in Kalamazoo and Muskegon. There is a Livonia location coming soon as well.

Other locations are in Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, and British Columbia.
