Browns' Garrett suffered sprained shoulder, other injuries in Sept. 26 crash

Sep. 27—Myles Garrett suffered multiple injuries Sept. 26 in the one-car accident that resulted in the Browns' star defensive end and a female passenger being transported by ambulance to a hospital, the Browns announced in a statement around 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27.

"First — and most importantly — we are thankful that Myles, his passenger and no other parties were seriously injured in the single-car accident yesterday," Browns general manager Andrew Berry said. "After medical evaluation today, our team doctors at University Hospitals have concluded that Myles has sustained a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor lacerations as well as some bumps and bruises to various other body parts.

"Myles didn't suffer any fractures and has also cleared concussion protocol. Currently, our focus is on providing Myles the medical care needed for him to return to football activity. Although we hope to have him back soon, his availability for Sunday's game in Atlanta will be evaluated by team doctors throughout the week."

WKYC posted a photo of Garrett's battered car on a tow truck.

Garrett was driving his 2021 gray Porsche south on State Road near Wadsworth after leaving practice when the crash occurred around 3 p.m. Garrett swerved to avoid hitting an animal on the wet pavement, over-corrected, and went off the right side of the road. His car flipped multiple times.

Garrett and the unnamed passenger were both wearing seatbelts. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the accident, according to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Garrett was discharged from the hospital late Sept. 26.

The Browns were off on Sept, 27, a normal Tuesday off day for them when their next game is on a Sunday. The Browns play the Falcons in Atlanta on Oct. 2. Practice resumes Sept. 28 in Berea. It is unknown whether Garrett will at least be in Berea to attend meetings or whether doctors will recommend he stays home to rest.

Garrett has three sacks through the first three games. His playing status for the game with the Falcons will likely be determined later in the week.

Jadeveon Clowney, the Browns' other starting defensive end, missed the game with the Steelers on Sept. 22 with an ankle injury. His status for the game in Atlanta also is uncertain.
