Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has officially been cleared to play in the AFC Championship Game. Mahomes spent the week in the NFL’s concussion protocol after a hard hit from Cleveland Browns LB Mack Wilson in the divisional round left him woozy.

Mahomes was a runner on the play and the hit was entirely legal, they simply got tangled up going to the ground. It was yet another reminder of the risks associated with playing a contact sport. Many attacked Wilson after Mahomes was knocked out of the game, calling him a dirty player.

Mahomes’ own mother Randi implied that Wilson was evil, but they eventually came to an understanding. Wilson said: “No disrespect mom I’m just playing hard… I just want to win and be great like your son.”

But Wilson showed genuine remorse for his hit following the game, praying for Mahomes to be able to come back and play in the AFC Championship Game. Mahomes didn’t seem to hold the situation against Wilson at all.

Once Mahomes officially cleared the protocol on Friday afternoon, Wilson sent out a final tweet on the matter: “Prayer has been answered.. Go ball out 15! @PatrickMahomes”

There’s no response from Mahomes yet, but he did like the tweet.

The truth is players never like to see other players hurt. They know the risks involved with the game and that the roles could just as easily be reversed in any injury situation. Wilson’s response leaves no doubt in my mind that football is family. Most of these guys genuinely care about each other’s well-being regardless of their jersey colors. It’s clear that’s the case with both Wilson and Mahomes.
