Cleveland Browns' Myles Garrett suffers shoulder sprain, biceps strain in one-car accident

Browns All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett suffered a shoulder sprain and a biceps strain, as well as lacerations, in Monday afternoon's one-car accident in Medina County, the team confirmed Tuesday evening.

“First – and most importantly – we are thankful that Myles, his passenger and no other parties were seriously injured in the single-car accident yesterday," Executive Vice President of Football Operations/General Manager Andrew Berry said in a statement. "After medical evaluation today, our team doctors at University Hospitals have concluded that Myles has sustained a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor lacerations as well as some bumps and bruises to various other body parts. Myles didn’t suffer any fractures and has also cleared concussion protocol.

"Currently, our focus is on providing Myles the medical care needed for him to return to football activity. Although we hope to have him back soon, his availability for Sunday’s game in Atlanta will be evaluated by team doctors throughout the week.”

Garrett was involved in the accident after he left the team's practice facility in Berea. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital, where he was released later in the evening. His female passenger was transported to the Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital.

"Myles Garrett was involved in a one-car accident this afternoon and was transported to a local hospital to be medically evaluated," Garrett's agent, Nicole Lynn, tweeted Monday evening. "While we are waiting to learn the extent of his injuries, he has been alert and responsive. The Garrett family would like to thank the medical personnel that got Myles and his passenger out of the vehicle and safely transported to the hospital."

Lynn confirmed to the Beacon Journal that Garrett did not suffer any broken bones in the accident.

The Sharon Township Fire Department said it responded to a single-vehicle crash at 2:57 p.m. on a narrow section of the 5600 block of State Road and took a man and a woman for medical treatment of injuries that weren't life-threatening.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said troopers arriving on scene found a gray Porsche 911 Turbo S off the right side of State Road near Ridgewood Road with rollover damage. The Porsche had been traveling southbound when it went off the roadway and overturned.

The patrol said impairment from alcohol and/or drugs is not suspected and that both Garrett and his passenger were wearing safety belts.

Garrett, 26, lives in Medina County, where the accident reportedly took place.

Garrett has played for the Browns since 2017, when they picked him first overall in the NFL Draft out of Texas A&M University. He has three sacks this season for the Browns (2-1), who will face the Atlanta Falcons (1-2) on the road Sunday.
