Browns QB Baker Mayfield and his wife, Emily, spread holiday cheer with their 'Passing the Joy' event

ELYRIA — Baker Mayfield was in a jolly mood Monday.

The Browns quarterback and his wife, Emily, visited Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio’s Elyria South Club as part of the couple’s annual “Passing the Joy” holiday celebration.

They posed for photographs with kids in a crowded gymnasium, participated in a fake snowball fight and handed out gifts. Emily Mayfield held a basketball shooting contest.

Baker Mayfield also spoke to the kids about working hard to achieve their goals and never giving up.

“We love being around kids in any shape or form,” he said. “Boys & Girls Clubs here in Northeast Ohio, they do an unbelievable job for obviously some areas that could use the help.

“The opportunity to be able to help and try and help and shape our future, that’s what it’s all about. I remember being that same age, looking up to people who were in my position. It’s a blessing and got to handle it the right way. Being around these kids makes it all worth it.”

This the second year the Mayfields have helped provide gifts to nearly 900 kids who are members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio, with Meijer, BODYARMOR and Camwood Capital Group serving as sponsors.

“We’ve just been so blessed,” Emily Mayfield said, “and so to be in a position to be able to give back to the city that’s given us a ton is a huge priority for us.”
