Case Keenum has earned the respect of being one of the NFL’s top backup quarterbacks. He proved why in Cleveland’s 17-14 win over the Denver Broncos in Week 7 with a solid performance. It was Keenum’s first start in place of an injured Baker Mayfield, who could miss significant time with a broken humerus bone and a torn labrum in the same left shoulder.

The veteran effectively ran the Browns offense, avoiding mistakes and making just enough throws to piggyback off a commanding ground game from backup RB D’Ernest Johnson. Keenum completed 21 of his 33 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown to backup FB Johnny Stanton.

Keenum also demonstrated the proper mentality after the game as the leader of the backups. When asked by the broadcast crew if he would be ready to start when the Browns face the Steelers in Week 8, Keenum offered up a great mic drop quote,

“You don’t have to get ready if you stay ready.”

Boom. Keenum took some enthusiastic fist-bumps from the crew and walked off the set.
