Browns star Myles Garrett adds museum ambassador to his resume

Aug. 27—Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has a legendary interest in dinosaurs. In recognition of Garrett's fascination with the subject, coupled with the fact he is the defensive face of the Browns, The Cleveland Museum of Natural History has made Garrett the Museum's first-ever Community Science Ambassador.

"Passionate about education, Myles feels strongly that science is for everyone," the museum wrote in a news release. "As Community Science Ambassador, he is particularly dedicated to encouraging the community's youngest members to pursue their interest in science and reinforcing the relevance of science to everyday life. His commitment to lifelong learning and removing barriers to access aligns with the Museum's strategic priorities."

Presumably, Garrett's duties with the museum won't interfere with his duties on the field. Players are normally off on Tuesdays, so Garrett can fulfill his role as an ambassador then.

"It means a lot," Garrett said after Browns practice Aug. 25. "I've always prided myself on trying to study the arts and being more in-tune with science, not only human history but paleontology and prehistory.

"For them to select me, they have so many others that could be an ambassador for them. It really means a lot. Just keep on trying to make sure that I'm the person for that spot in that role."

Museum officials are hoping Garrett's celebrity status as a star player for the Browns will spark young people to gain an interest in the museum, located at 1 Wade Oval Drive in Cleveland.

Garrett's passion for helping young boys and girls is genuine. He recently hosted the Myles Garrett Back-to-School Kickoff to help prepare 200 children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio off to a good start to the 2022-23 school year.

"I credit my family with teaching me the value of giving back to the community," Garrett said in the news release. "Cleveland is my community, and I want to do my best to be a positive role model for our kids.

"I'm excited to continue working with the Museum team to share their important mission. Together, we can spark curiosity, improve science education, and expand access in new and fun ways."

Garrett is closing in on Clay Matthews' franchise record of 75 sacks registered over 16 seasons. Garrett has 58.5 sacks through his first five seasons. He needs 17 sacks to break the record. He has a career-best 16 sacks in 2021.
