Bruce Willis Puts New York State Country Retreat On the Market for $12.95 Million

The veteran action star and his family are hoping to move closer to their family in California

As Bruce Willis and his wife, Emma, look to set down more permanent roots in California, the legendary actor is selling his 22-acre Westchester property as part of that plan. According to The Wall Street Journal, the couple recently listed their property, located near Bedford Corners, New York, for a cool $12.95 million, hoping to turn a small profit given the $12 million they paid for the home back in 2014.

The main house—which is crowned by a small octagonal room with expansive views of the surrounding countryside—is made up of five bedrooms across the span of roughly 9,000 square feet, and includes, among other things, a spacious living room with views of the Croton Reservoir, a playroom, a media room with a video system, and a wine cellar. In addition to the main home, Willis’s property also includes three other cottages comprising a total of seven bedrooms (the cottages are accessible via a separate driveway), ideal for use as guest houses or as office space. Willis told the WSJ that the family primarily used the extra space to “offer out-of-town friends and family the option to spend loads of time with us without feeling they are underfoot.” Another property bonus is the vegetable garden, where Willis and his wife grow some of their own produce for the ultimate farm-to-table countryside experience.

According to Willis, if it weren’t for the fact that he and the family want to be closer to their loved ones out in California, they would keep the home. “The only reasons we are giving it up is because we are so far from our California family, which is why we have decided to return to the West Coast and make our home there,” he told the WSJ in a statement. “Our youngest daughter, Mabel, said last week that she wishes we could put lots of balloons on our house, like they did in the movie Up, and send it to the West Coast. I agree, that would be perfect.”

Should the Willises decide they want to take extended visits to the East Coast, they’ll still have a place to stay, however. Early last year, they “downsized” to a four-bedroom, 3,000-square-foot apartment near Lincoln Center, which they bought for $7.9 million, selling their NYC duplex several months later for a full asking price of $17.7 million. Elsewhere in Willis's notable real-estate ventures, he sold off his Idaho ranch for $5.5 million, the single biggest residential sale ever in the area.
