The Brunch House of Augusta becomes staple in the CSRA with family feeding families

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Brunch House of Augusta has become a staple in the CSRA, and Asian Brown, the owner, sits down for a brief moment to chat with WJBF about their beginnings and how their business continues to thrive.

Plus, we get to taste the restaurant’s house dish: The Brunch House Benedict!

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule and allowing us to be here in your establishment for Celebrating Black Excellence. Let’s get started. Where are you originally from? Where’d you go to school?

I’m originally from here, Augusta, Georgia, and I went to A.R. Johnson High School and Augusta University.

What made you want to get into owning a restaurant? What inspired that?

Oh, just my passion for food. I love to eat. (Laughs) My wife and I love breakfast food as well. So, we used to go to Waffle House all the time at night. So, we figured, “Why not make our own?”

How did you come up with the name of your restaurant? What made you call this place The Brunch House of Augusta?  We tried to think of a name that incorporates who we are. So, when we thought about different restaurant names, what they really stand for what we are? So, we thought The Brunch House; like with Waffle House, you know you’re going to get Waffles. So, with the Brunch House, you know you’re going to get brunch.

Your tagline is Family Feeding Families. What is the significance of that?

When we first started out, of course, it was during COVID. So, there was a lot of family here helping us. When we first started, the former chef was my cousin; he helped start the restaurant as well. My aunts, cousins, and nieces just band together and helped out when they could and volunteered their time.

How was it operated during COVID?

Oh, it was challenging, to say the least, but I’m just happy and blessed that we made it through it. Just dealing with more prices fluctuating up and down; not more so people coming in. Once Augusta has something new, everybody kind of bands around it and uplifts it.

How has the reception been since COVID?

Far as I know, it’s been great. (Laughs)

What would you say is the most popular dish that you guys have at The Brunch House Of Augusta?

Oh, I would probably say Our Rise And Shine Platter that include our stuffed French toast which we make in house, and we pair it with our turkey sausage, which we also make in house.

What is your favorite meal at The Brunch House Of Augusta?

My favorite meal would have to be the shrimp and grits. We have good shrimp and grits.

Now, for people who may want to be a part of the food industry or want to own their own business, what words of advice could you give someone?

Stay true to who you are, and once you put your mind to it, just make sure you have a good team around you to help you get there. You can’t do anything by yourself, and always keep God first. As long as you do that, your path will be laid.

What are your hours here at The Brunch House of Augusta?

We’re open Wednesday through Sunday; 7 A.M. to 2 P.M. on Wednesday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. And just a tidbit, we may be open on Tuesdays coming up soon. So, be on the lookout. Follow us on social media.
