New brunch & seafood spot Evergreen opens in Ocean Springs as new concept from Mosaic

A reimagined dining experience on Government Street in Ocean Springs has opened its doors this month.

The restaurant formerly known as Charred was purchased by Mosaic and in its place comes Evergreen, complete with a new menu and a new feel that fits well within the cultural center of Ocean Springs.

The establishment provides a unique vibe no matter which table you sit at. The gated outdoor seating is skirted by palm trees and ringed with fire-filled lanterns.

The immediate foyer is splashed with exposed brick and an indoor faux tree wrapped in lights hangs over the bar stools.

In the dining room, you’re surrounded by art backdropped by deep Mississippi Sound teal walls and lit largely by natural light through the windows.

Depending on the the day and the time, Evergreen will serve you a lunch, brunch or dinner menu. Each is unique with an array of starters and entrees to choose from.

The Sun Herald’s visit came during lunch, which meant a softshell crab sandwich and a house ground burger was on the menu for us.

For a restaurant bringing the class, the burger off the grill came stocked with a surprisingly thick patty. This is where Evergreen flexed its ability to combine a charming atmosphere with a Mississippi Coast menu.

The softshell crab was another indicator of this. The crab was flavorful and topped with a remoulade sauce with coleslaw and pickles.

Coming from a caeser salad slob, the caeser was also fantastic. We sampled the aperol margarita and a lemon-tart panna cotta bathed in blackberry bourbon sauce.

The evening crowd can enjoy mangrove snapper, a ribeye or basil fettuccinni alfredo. The brunch lovers have french toast, a crabcake benny or a smash burger with fried egg on the menu.

And available on every menu are oysters served in rockefeller, summer or french hermit.

Evergreen is open 11 a.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. on Sundays.
