Bruno Mars announces Silk Sonic, new music with Anderson .Paak and Bootsy Collins

Bruno Mars is getting back into the music game, and bringing some fellow Grammy Award-winning music makers along for the ride.

On Thursday night, the chart-topping pop music crooner announced that he’s teamed up with hip-hop/R&B singer/songwriter Anderson. Paak to make a new album.

“We locked in and made an album,” he wrote on Twitter. “The band’s called Silk Sonic. First song drops next Friday 3/5.”

The “Uptown Funk” artist also tweeted out visuals, showing a sketching of both his and Anderson’s faces, both wearing big sparkly glasses and it has the title “An Evening with Silk Sonic.”

Underneath, it reads, “With special guest host Bootsy Collins.”

Collins is a celebrated bass player and singer whose best known for his work with James Brown, and as member of the pioneering group Parliament-Funkadelic.

In 1978, the Cincinnati native’s third album with his Bootsy’s Rubber Band outfit — “Bootsy? Player of the Year” — spurred the No. 1 R&B hit, “Bootzilla.”

In 2002, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee won the Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video is also a pop culture icon who’s been name-checked in songs and appeared in numerous TV shows and commercials. In 2019, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy.

“Silk Sonic” is Mars’ first opus release since 2016 1/4 u2032s Grammy-winning “24K Magic” and marks his first group outing.

Since then, the Atlantic Records hit-maker released a number of collaborative singles including Cardi B, Gucci Mane and Ed Sheeran.

Paak, a multi-instrumentalist hailing from Oxnard, Calif., is a protégé of hip hop super producer Dr. Dre. His last album was 2019 1/4 u2032s Grammy-winning “Ventura.”
