Hello, and welcome to the Brunswick Today newsletter brought to you by me, StarNews reporter Jamey Cross.

Watching Christmas movies is a time-honored tradition in my household. Beginning in November, we make it a point to start rotating in all the classic Christmas stories: Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Charlie Brown, Jack Frost and more. But, my favorite Christmas story is Dr. Seuss' "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

My best friend and I can quote the 2000 Jim Carrey version basically word-for-word, but I'm not partial to one adaptation over another: cartoon, live-action, even the Broadway musical version -- I love them all.

Just in time for Christmas, a Brunswick County writer recently released an original Christmas children's book. In "The Legend of Christmoose," author Wright Smith of Belville tells the story of a moose who only wants to join in on the reindeer games.

StarNews correspondent Ben Steelman has more on the story and where you can snag a copy here.

Here we grow again

Brunswick County is growing at record rates, so much so that the county could outgrow nearby New Hanover County in a few decades. Reporter Renee Spencer took a deep look at the county's growth and what's made it possible.

She talked with Bill Sue, a native of Brunswick County who started developing in Leland in the late 1960s. He went on to sit on the county's board of education and was a county commissioner for 18 years. In many ways, Sue says, the decisions made by those boards in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, allowed the growth we're seeing today. Here's the story.

The agenda

Western Brunswick County continues to see rapid growth and development. A rezoning request will be considered by the Brunswick County Planning Board Monday night that could make way for another high-density development in the area. Here's what to know ahead of Monday night's meeting.
