An Ocean Isle woman was shocked when she discovered she'd won more than $146,000 in the lottery last month.

According to a news release from the NC Education Lottery, 56-year-old Lorie Turner won the $146,052 jackpot in the July 27 Carolina Jackpot second-chance drawing. The Ocean Isle woman said she "couldn't believe it."

Turner said she and her friends get together on the first Tuesday of each month to buy scratch-off lottery tickets before heading out to lunch together. The win constitutes a celebratory lunch, Turner said, and she plans to foot the bill.

Turner arrived at lottery headquarters on Friday to collect her prize, according to the release. After required federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $103,711.

Turner said she and her husband are nearing retirement and plan to use some of the winnings to help pay off their home. A Floridia vacation is also in the plan.

The next second-chance drawing is Sept. 13.
