Brunswick Community College will receive a significant funding injection from the North Carolina State Legislature.

The allocation was made in the state budget. Here’s what we know.

The college will receive a $25 million directed grant.

According to the state budget, the grant is appropriated for the “workforce development center and public safety center capital projects.”

The workforce development center will be a new facility.

According to Greg Bland, vice president of continuing education for Brunswick Community College, the building will be located at the entrance along U.S. 17.

“The building will be front-facing and highly visible,” Bland said in an email.

The center will facilitate training for Brunswick County’s new and existing industries.

“Workforce continues to be among the top three deciding factors for new companies that are considering a new location,” said Bland, adding the college would continue to build facilities, develop curriculum, purchase equipment, and award credentials that “align with needs of the private sector.”

“Providing a well-trained pipeline of talent strengthens our local economy and leads to careers that our residents desire,” he said.

The center will also be a one-stop experience for students who are still deciding which program to pursue.

Brunswick Community College officials say they are experiencing record enrollment at all the college's facilities.

There are no formal plans for the facility yet.

Bland said the college would begin the design process next year.

The college also operates facilities in Southport and Leland.

The Southport Center is dedicated to heritage arts, while the Leland center houses a business incubator. Bland said currently, all locations, the Southport Center, the main campus, and the Leland Center, are seeing “record enrollment.”

“College transfer, workforce development, credential attainment, small business center counseling, and customized training for industry is continuing to trend upward,” he said.
