Bryan Cranston has addressed the possibility of Malcolm in the Middle being revived.

The sitcom ran for seven seasons between 2000 and 2006, with Cranston winning acclaim for his role as Hal.

Since its conclusion, there have been rumours that the show could be resurrected in the shape of a feature-length film, and Cranston seemed open to the idea.

“It’s a possibility,” he told The Independent. “[Creator Linwood Boomer] said he would think about it, and he got his writers together. If they can come up with a great idea, a legitimate idea, then he’ll pursue it.

“If not, then nah. I don’t need a job. I’ve got plenty of jobs. I don’t need it, but I’d want it if it was a great idea,” he explained, before reminiscing about his time on the show. “It was seven years of glory. Going to work every day and making yourself and others laugh. That was my job.”

Cranston, who subsequently rose to larger fame on Breaking Bad, recently reprised his role as Walter White for a Super Bowl commercial, and explained exclusively to Digital Spy why he decided to reunite with co-star Aaron Paul.

“I was like, ‘yeah, I’ll do that.’ And then now we have a Super Bowl commercial for PopCorners, and it was so much fun to do,” he said. “You know, in shooting a drama like that you don’t have a lot of opportunities just to have fun.

"To be able to get back together with Aaron and Vince [Gilligan, Breaking Bad’s creator] and the whole crew from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul to make this commercial was so much fun to do,” he continued. “Instead of crystal meth, we’re baking these PopCorners [in the RV], and you know – it’s a very tasty snack.”

Cranston’s upcoming projects include Asteroid City, the newest movie from Wes Anderson, and the second season of legal drama Your Honor.

Your Honor airs on Paramount+ in the UK. The series airs on Showtime in the US.
