Alabama football coach Nick Saban said on his weekly radio show on Thursday that quarterback Bryce Young has practiced some this week but will be a game-time decision for Saturday's game against Texas A&M.

Young injured his shoulder when falling awkwardly on his arm in the second quarter of last week's win over Arkansas. He returned to the game for one series, then went inside the medical tent and into the locker room. Though he did return to the sideline in the second half with his helmet on, Young did not play the rest of the game. Saban said Wednesday on the SEC's coaches teleconference that Young was day-to-day.

Young threw in practice some on Wednesday, ESPN reported Thursday, but rested his shoulder on Thursday.

"There's no real bad damage or anything like that in his shoulder, so this is not a long-term thing. but he still has some soreness," Saban said on his radio show. "We'll have to make a game-time decision before the game in pregame to see if he can throw the ball well enough to go out there and do his job.

"He has been able to practice some. Bryce is a great competitor. He'll want to go out there and play the best he can. But sometimes you have to protect players from themselves because they've got to be able to go out there and create value for themselves and be healthy enough to do it the right way. He's a sharp guy. I think he'll know whether he can go out there and do it. We'll be able to make a decision based on that. This is really and truly will be a pre-game decision. The way we've treated this from a medical standpoint is overuse would really set him back. "

Young, the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner and among the favorites to repeat this season, has thrown for 1,202 yards and 14 touchdowns with three interceptions this year.

Backup Jalen Milroe had two total touchdowns in relief of Young in last Saturday's win over Arkansas. He threw for 65 yards on 4-of-9 passing and added 91 rushing yards, including a 77-yard run that set up a key fourth quarter touchdown to push the Tide's lead to two scores.

If Young is not able to play against Texas A&M, Milroe would be in line for his first career start.
