Bryn Du Mansion welcomes summer Artist in Residence

The Bryn Du Mansion is thrilled to welcome its summer Artist in Residence, Pennsylvania-based artist Kong Ho, who will be residing in Bryn Du’s Artist in Residence cottage during the months of June and July. His residency is sponsored by the Granville Community Foundation.

"Kong Ho’s work is truly stunning. While at Bryn Du, Mr. Ho will be continuing his work with acrylic painting and will be taking some time to focus on those works as they relate to sensory experiences, transition and the journey of life. We can’t wait to see his artwork come to life here at Bryn Du," said Bryn Du Mansion Executive Director Bruce Cramer.

Ho utilizes his bicultural background as a teaching artist and muralist, professionally trained in both Chinese and Western visual arts, to practice his own craft. He earned a Masters in Fine Arts from Texas Tech University and has taught and practiced visual art across the world at a multitude of universities. In addition to teaching and creating art, Ho founded the Hong Kong Mural Society and has published two books. His works have been shown in 16 solo exhibits and more than 120 international and national exhibitions including in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Hong Kong.

Ho is looking forward to utilizing the cultural and artistic environment of Bryn Du to provide inspiration in his works in relation to detachment from familiar dwellings. He intends to explore his representational and imaginative floral-spiral paintings based on new sensory experiences mingled with the nostalgia for familiar ones during the eight-week residency.

During the months of June and July, Bryn Du will be offering a variety of activities highlighting Ho. All are free and open to the public. Shortly after his arrival, the community is invited to meet Kong Ho for an artist talk and reception on June 6 at 7 p.m. at the Mansion.

In addition, the public is welcome to join Ho for two open studio events on June 24 and July 15 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the Artist in Residence cottage studio on site at Bryn Du. During these hours, Ho’s art studio will be open for visitors to watch him paint and ask questions. Finally, an end-of-residency art exhibition will be held on July 19 from 5-7 p.m. in the Bryn Du Art Center’s Eddie Wolfe Gallery. Come see the exhibit of works Ho has created during his time at Bryn Du and stay for the Concert on the Green on the Mansion’s back lawn, if so desired. Artworks will be for sale.

The focus of Bryn Du’s Artist in Residence program is to enhance local awareness and engagement in the arts by introducing new and varied artists to the Granville and Licking County community throughout the calendar year. Residencies at Bryn Du are open nationwide for artists of all disciplines to apply between June 1 and Aug. 31 for the following calendar year at BrynDu.com. The last residency of 2022 will be held by novelist Angelina "AJ" Strosahl of Oakland, California this fall.
