ON BTN, Mark Dixon says Rutgers men’s lacrosse Ross Scott is ‘one of the best players…in college lacrosse’

Rutgers men’s lacrosse is cruising into the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they will face a UPenn program that won the Ivy League Tournament two weeks ago.

In the final regular season Inside Lacrosse rankings, Rutgers was eighth in the rankings. UPenn checked in at third.

Before a packed house at Yurcak Field, Rutgers beat Harvard 19-9 on Sunday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Ross Scott scored eight goals for Rutgers, the 5-foot-9 junior attacker turning in a big performance for the Scarlet Knights.

“Electric, it was unbelievable. I think the rest of the country, if they weren’t paying attention to Rutgers or Ross Scott, found out what we’ve known all along,” Big Ten Network analayst Mark Dixon said on Wednesday.

“Scott is one of the best players – attack or any position – in college lacrosse. He’s so fast, so quick. That was competitive game. What? 7-4 at halftime. The second half became the Ross Scott show. I believe he had seven of those eight goals in the second half of action.

“Everything was on display for him: his quickness, his shooting ability. His ability to turn the corner and get great shots off. In a time when Rutgers was so experienced: 27 seniors…you talk about the grad transfers in [Mitch] Bartolo and [Brian] Cameron and [Ronan] Jacoby, it is Ross Scott that has really paid his dues and has elevated his game to a whole other stratosphere in 2022.”

(Note: the halftime score was 7-5 in favor of Rutgers).

The second-round NCAA Tournament match at Hofstra between Rutgers and Harvard will take place at noon.

UPenn beat both Brown and Yale in the Ivy League Tournament. In the first round of the NCAA Tournament, they beat Richmond 11-10.
