South Korean group BTS dominated Spotify and Apple music in 2021, according to the streaming platforms’ year-end lists.

Breaking records: Spotify’s “Wrapped 2021” report, released on Dec. 1, revealed that BTS surpassed Blackpink and Twice to take the No. 1 spot of the Top K-pop Artists Globally category.

  • The South Korean septet, consisting of members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook, crushed the Top K-pop Songs Globally chart with their tracks “Butter,” “Dynamite,” “Permission to Dance” and “Life Goes On,” which ranked first, second, third and fourth, respectively.

  • In addition to being Spotify’s top K-pop artist and releasing the streaming platform’s top K-pop songs in 2021, the group also took Top K-Pop Albums Globally’s No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 spots for “Be,” “Love Yourself: Answer,” “MAP OF THE SOUL: 7” and “Love Yourself: Tear.” Blackpink secured the fourth spot with “THE ALBUM.”

  • BTS is also Spotify’s Top Male Groups Globally for 2021, beating other well-known groups, such as Stray Kids, Tomorrow X Together (TXT), Seventeen and Exo. Meanwhile, Blackpink won the top spot for the female group category, followed by Twice, Itzy, Red Velvet and (G)I-dle.

  • BTS also ranked third on Spotify’s Most Streamed Artists Globally list after Taylor Swift, who took the No. 2 spot. Bad Bunny remains at the top, having claimed the No. 1 spot for two consecutive years now.

Other recent achievements: BTS’ 2020 single “Dynamite” was also Apple Music Replay’s most-streamed song of 2021, while their May single “Butter” landed on the platform’s list as well at No. 21.
