According to Ukraine, debris from the Russian Shahed fell on the territory of Romania

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé d'Affaires of the Russian Federation after more fragments of a drone similar to those used by the Russian army were found on Romanian territory, local outlet Agerpres reported on Sept. 10.

Earlier, Romania discovered the wreckage of a second drone in the space of one week amid Russian attacks on Ukraine's river ports, located a few hundred meters from the Romanian border.

On the same day, the Russian ambassador to Bucharest was urgently summoned to the country's Foreign Ministry Secretary, the news agency writes.

"State Secretary for Strategic Affairs Iulian Fota conveyed the Romanian side's protest over the violation of Romanian airspace after the discovery of some fragments of drones similar to those used by Russian troops in the aggression against Ukraine on (Romanian) territory, near the border with Ukraine," the statement reads.

The Romanian official also condemned the systematic, unjustified, and brutal attacks by Russian troops on the Ukrainian population and civilian infrastructure, particularly on the Danube, near the Romanian border, which threaten the security of Romanian citizens in the region.

Russian drones crash in Romania – What is known

In the early hours of Sept. 4, Russia launched a massive attack southern Odesa Oblast with drones.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry, citing border guards, said that Russian drones had also crashed and detonated on the territory of Romania, a NATO member state.

However, the Romanian Ministry of Defense first "categorically denied this information" and stated that the Russian attacks did not pose a direct threat to the country's territory.

In response, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine has photographic evidence of the fall of Russian drones in Romania.

Then, on Sept. 6, Romanian National Defense Minister Angel Tîlvăr admitted for the first time that parts of a drone launched by Russia into Ukraine had fallen on his country's territory.

On the same day, Bucharest reported the incident to NATO. President Klaus Iohannis called the falling debris a "serious violation of sovereignty."

NATO member states expressed "strong solidarity" with Romania in a statement. At the same time, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Sept. 7 that the alliance sees no signs that there was a deliberate Russian attack on Romania.

Fragments of another drone similar to those used by the Russian military were found in Romania on Sept. 9.
