Buchholz's Creed Whittemore follows in brother's footsteps, wins Scot Brantley Trophy

THE VILLAGES − The trophy case at the Whittemore residence might need some rearranging.

Following in the footsteps of his older brother Trent Whittemore, Buchholz senior Creed Whittemore was named the winner of this year's Scot Brantley Trophy, which was presented by the Ocala Quarterback Club on Wednesday afternoon during halftime of the FACA All-Star Classic at The Villages High School.

Trent Whittemore was the inaugural winner of the award, which recognizes the most outstanding football player, student and citizen across Marion, Alachua, Citrus, Lake, Levy and Sumter County.

"I remember being there and it being a big deal to him," Creed Whittemore said, reflecting of his older brother winning the award in 2018. "I try to be just like my older brothers, so winning this means a lot to me. I know they're proud of me and I try to do everything to make the Lord proud... This is an honor."

Creed Whittemore beat out Forest's Tae Floyd, Oak Hall's Dylan Provencher and South Sumter's JaWarren Corbin for the award, which bears the name of former Florida Gator and Tampa Bay Buccaneer linebacker, Scot Brantley.

And with on-field excellence being one of the leading pillars of the award, the selection committee, which is made up of Ocala Quarterback Club members, made a pretty solid choice.

In his senior season with Buchholz, Creed Whittemore piloted the Bobcats to their second consecutive trip to the Final Four, where they narrowly fell to Venice. Through the course of his senior campaign, Whittemore passed for more than 2,500 yards and 33 touchdowns, while adding more than 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns with his legs.

"He's had an outstanding career," said Ocala Quarterback Club representative Todd Duffy. "He just did so many things on and off the field."

Whittemore's career at Buchholz helped him garner the attention of countless Division I and Power 5 programs.

But when it was time to make a decision, Whittemore committed to Mississippi State, which received his signed letter of intent on Wednesday morning prior to him winning the Scot Brantley Trophy.

"Obviously this morning was fun... I really like our class. I think we're going to go on to do big things," Whittemore said of signing with the Bulldogs. "This was just icing on the cake for today."
