Buchtel, STVM win boys basketball games at Flyin' To The Hoop at Kettering Fairmont

BOYS BASKETBALL

Buchtel 70, Dayton Dunbar 66

Christian Harmon scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Griffins (9-4) to a win Sunday in the Flyin' To The Hoop Invitational at Kettering Farimont.

Harmon made five 3-pointers.

Marcel Boyce Jr. scored 17 points and Khoi Thurmon had 15 for Buchtel.

"The guys came out and wanted this win," Buchtel coach Rayshon Dent said. "They knew Dunbar was going to be tough. They came out with a workmanlike attitude and it showed throughout the game."

St. Vincent-St. Mary 71, Fairfield 67

Dynamic seniors Sencire Harris and Ramar Pryor continued their scoring prowess with 25 points and 20 points, respectively, to lead the Irish (9-2) to a victory in the Flyin' To The Hoop Invitational at Kettering Farimont.

Harris also grabbed eight rebounds. STVM's Kevin Hamilton contributed 13 points and Lance Hayes had eight points.

"That is a good win for us," STVM coach Dru Joyce II said. "They are a very good Division I team, and there are not going to be a lot of teams that want to play them."

Copley 62, Maple Heights 60 (OT)

Sophomore sharpshooter Trent Wininger scored 27 points to guide Copley (8-2) to a win in the Spectrum Orthopaedics Classic at North Canton Hoover.

"Trent made seven 3-pointers, and he made four free throws in the final 12 seconds to ice the game," Copley coach Mark Dente said. "This is a real good win for us."

Copley senior Preston Taylor finished with 11 points, senior Cory Arp had 10 points and 10 rebounds and seniors Glen Parker and Caleb Laurich added in six points apiece.

David Miller paced Maple Heights with 25 points.

Green 74, Cleveland Benedictine 50

Trey Martin scored 23 points to lead the Bulldogs (12-2) in the Spectrum Orthopaedics Classic at North Canton Hoover. Green's Brady Rollyson (17 points) and Zack Oddo (15 points) also reached double figures, and Reggie Walker had 14 points for the Bengals.

"Playing on a Sunday at 12:30 in the afternoon, we had good focus and we did a good job of attacking their zone," Green coach Mark Kinsley said. "We had good ball movement which gave us good looks. We made a season-high 14 3s."

North Canton Hoover 55, Strongsville 48

Tanner Ware scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead host Hoover in the Spectrum Orthopaedics Classic. Hoover's Elijah Barker finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Justin Wypasek paced the Mustangs with 22 points.

Solon 63, Archbishop Hoban 59

Jonas Nichols scored 18 points, Will Scott added in 13 points and Andrew Griffith had 11 points, but the it wasn't enough as the Knights (8-5) fell to the Comets (7-4) in the Spectrum Orthopaedics Classic at Hoover.

Solon's leading scorers were Rayquan Thompson (19 points), Deon Miller (16 points), Sam Marbury (12 points) and Cameron Brown (11 points).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Stow 52, Columbus Bishop Hartley 42

Kristin Chmielewski scored 20 points, Anna Hurst had 12 points and Emily Ervin dropped in 11 points for the Bulldogs (14-0) in the Classic in the City in Columbus.

"Hartley is a talented team that has a 6-3 kid Ella Barandewie and a Division I college level guard Kiki McElrath," Stow coach Bob Podges said. "We did a good job on the big kid as she scored six points, and the Division I guard had four baskets and was 6-of-7 from the free-throw for 15 points. We really focused on the defense and we came out and shot the ball well."

GlenOak 53, West Chester Lakota West 48 (OT)

Breezie Williams scored 15 points to lead the Golden Eagles (13-1) to a victory in the Classic in the Country at Berlin Hiland. GlenOak's Jordan Weir and Kiley Dyrlund finished with 12 points apiece. Dyrlund also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.

Marlington 51, Toledo Notre Dame Academy 31

Sophomore Chelsea Evanich totaled 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds to lead the Dukes (12-2) to a win in the Classic in the Country at Berlin Hiland. Marlington junior Elizabeth Mason also scored 14 points.

Green 65, Kenmore-Garfield 26

Madi Pukansky scored 22 points and Alyssa Ziehler contributed 16 for the host Bulldogs.
