Buckeye board moves forward with sanitary sewer project

Oct. 20—ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — The Buckeye Board of Education took another step closer to starting its sanitary sewer project.

At its Tuesday night meeting, the board accepted a proposal from Hess & Associates Engineering of Newbury, to design a sanitary lift station and force main at Edgewood High School, 2428 Blake Road, Ashtabula Township, and other district properties near the high school.

The total cost for the project is $658,115 of which 30 percent of the total cost, $200,000, will be requested from the Appalachian Regional Commission and 70 percent of the total cost, $458,115, will be funded by Buckeye Local Schools. The district committed to $475,000 in local funding.

The board also accepted a $9,071 proposal from Vector Security for the installation of a fire alarm system at the bus garage, plus monthly monitoring and inspections.

The board took time to recognize September's Students of the Month:

—Annie Mae Johnston, 10th grade, Edgewood High School.

—Amanda Wentz, 8th grade, Braden Middle School.

—Peyton Carlo, 5th grade, Kingsville Elementary School.

—Brezdan Carter, 5th grade, Ridgeview Elementary School.

The board's next regular meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Braden Middle School.
