Buckeye Central's Ryley Kantzer first team, Kate Siesel second team D-IV All-NW District
FINDLAY — There were doubters as to what the Buckeye Central girls basketball team could accomplish this season, and the Buckettes proved themselves in a big way by winning the Northern 10 conference for a third consecutive season and followed that up with an unprecedented seventh Division IV district championship in a row.
And when the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association met for its annual Northwest District meeting, Buckeye Central garnered quite the recognition.
Senior Ryley Kantzer was named first team All-Northwest District after averaging 9.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.4 blocks while shooting 42.7% from the floor and 82% from the free-throw line. Classmate Kate Siesel landed on the second team, leading the Buckettes in scoring with 14.5 points per game along with 2.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.5 steals, shooting 37% from 3 with a single-season record 77.
Their senior teammates Kennedy Deppen and Sydney Wurm were honorable mention, as was Crestline senior Madalyn Engler and junior Kennedi Sipes.
Buckeye Central coach Abram Kaple was named co-Coach of the Year after a third straight league title and fifth district title in as many seasons.
