Buckhead shoppers concerned for their safety after rusted railing collapses

Concerned shoppers say they’ve reported what they classify as safety issues at the Buckhead Station shopping center.

“If a child or adult isn’t paying attention they can easily fall through up there,” one concerned shopper said when describing the area where a railing recently collapsed.

Shoppers reached out to Channel 2 after they say their complaints to property management have fallen on deaf ears.

Shoppers told Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Ashli Lincoln that a rusted railing recently fell onto the lower level the parking garage.

Shoppers say they also have concerns about eroding stairs and water leaks.

Channel 2 Action News learned the property is managed by Regency Centers.

In a statement the company said:

“Regency acquired this shopping center in 2017 and, in collaboration with our structural engineers, quickly created and began implementing a plan of phased upgrades, with public safety and minimizing disruptions to the public being our primary focus. We continue to work closely with our structural engineering team and the property regularly inspected to ensure that it is structurally safe and sound for the general public while we continue to implement these upgrades.”

Regency Centers went on to say they hope to have parking deck repairs finished by the end of 2024.

Lincoln went through inspection reports from the City of Atlanta and three different inspections were done on this parking garage within the last year.

Inspectors noted on all inspections this parking deck were in compliance.
