Developer Andy Lee said Friday the retailer will move into the location formerly occupied by Men’s Wearhouse. He said work on the site will start Monday with an anticipated opening in February.

The move means Quail Creek Crossing will be fully occupied, Lee said.

Buckle began as a men’s clothing store in Nebraska in 1948 and has since expanded its line to include women’s and children’s line. The company has 441 stores in 48 states.

The move of Buckle is the latest change in Wichita Falls’ brick-and-mortar retail landscape. Dillard’s department store, a mainstay in Sikes Senter since its opening in 1974, closed in the summer of 2022. Another popular retailer, Old Navy, moved to Quail Creek Crossing from Sikes Senter, as did American Eagle Outfitters. Bath & Body Works is now straddling with stores in both locations.

Sikes Senter, once the retail centerpiece of the city, has undergone significant changes since it was purchased by the Kohan Retail Investment Group of New York, whose portfolio includes more than 60 malls nationwide. Many of that company’s malls have seen financial challenges. On Friday, Kohan’s Towne West mall in Wichita, Kansas, had its electrical power cut off for non-payment of the bill, according to the Wichita Eagle newspaper.

Lee said a planned extension of Wenonah Boulevard to the east of Quail Creek Crossing should clear the way for more retail expansion in what has become the city’s hottest retail corridor. He hinted that one major chain may be looking at a location near Kell Boulevard when the Wenonah expansion is confirmed.
