These Bucks Co. Towns Have Most New COVID Cases

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Even with many government offices closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, the number of recorded coronavirus cases in Bucks County rose by nearly 2,700 over the past week.

Friday morning, the county had 16,709 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, according to Pennsylvania Department of Health data. That's up from the 14,076 cases the state had recorded last Friday.

The state also was reporting 22 new coronavirus deaths over the past week in Bucks County — 672 total on Friday, up from 650 a week earlier. That would be nearly double the 12 deaths the county had reported the week earlier.

Over the past week, the biggest increases in case numbers came in the population centers in Lower Bucks, where they've been the highest all along. Bensalem added 342 cases, while Levittown's four zip codes added 242.

If you include all the zip codes in the Levittown area (adding Bristol, Croydon, Fairless Hills and Langhorne), the area had 554 new cases in the past week.

The areas around Bensalem also saw big gains over the past week, with Feasterville Trevose adding 134 cases and Southampton recording 179 new cases.

The county seat of Doylestown's two zip codes saw 137 new cases over the past week.

Health experts have said that this week's Thanksgiving holiday will impact daily coronavirus case numbers, causing an apparent dip in cases. Erin Kissane, of The COVID Tracking Project, wrote Tuesday that both testing and reporting generally drop on and around holidays.

She noted that daily case numbers drop every weekend and that true COVID numbers should emerge by next week.

Below, see the number of total coronavirus cases in Bucks County by zip code, as well as the number of new cases reported in the past week. The numbers are according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Note: Numbers for Sellersville and Ottsville were not recorded by Patch in last week's article. Case number comparisons in those two zip codes will begin next week. Also, not every municipality is listed here by name. For example, Yardley and Lower Makefield are included in the Morrisville zip code.
