Local couple, Gia and Edward Houmas, opened their new restaurant this month, bringing family recipes to life through Italian favorites, like their stone baked pizzas.

A big seller is the roast pork sandwich, made using pork that has been marinated for 24 hours, slow roasted for eight hours and shredded. The A&G Pizza and Gigi’s Meatballs are also very popular.

The menu also includes starters, salads, burgers, wings, hoagies, pasta dishes, Greek specialties, desserts and old fashioned Italian sodas.

Located in the former Feasterville Pasta & Pizza space, next to Roma’s Italian Specialty Market, the restaurant primarily focuses on takeout, but limited seating is provided for those wanting to dine in. Delivery is also available, and catering will be added in the near future.

Snackdown Grille, Quakertown

One of our region's most unusual shopping centers recently got a little more unique.

The Quakertown Farmers Market now hosts a wrestling-themed hot dog and burger joint decorated with the steel chairs used as weapons in fights by the likes of Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan, and littered with life-sized cardboard cutouts of figures such as the retired wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

In addition to burgers and dogs, like the Macho Burger or Pimpin Dog, Snackdown’s menu also includes a number of drinks and sides, such as Yoo-hoo, onion rings and Flair Fries topped with cheese and chili.

Also, be sure to keep an eye out for autograph sessions with pro wrestling personalities and other special events hosted at Snackdown.

Greenstraw in Newtown transitioning to vegan menu under new owner

Greenstraw's new owner, Dhruv Patel, looks forward to transitioning to a fully vegan menu at the Newtown Borough cafe.
Greenstraw's new owner, Dhruv Patel, looks forward to transitioning to a fully vegan menu at the Newtown Borough cafe.

Greenstraw founder, Kelly Ann Troy, is passing the torch to a new owner after more than a decade since starting her local café, offering smoothies, cold-pressed juices and fresh, healthy meals.

The café’s new owner, Dhruv Patel, who grew up in Newtown, said he appreciates the business Troy built over the years and looks forward to ushering it into a new chapter, as he transitions Greenstraw into a vegan cafe.

“She has big shoes to fill, but the support she’s given me in the past couple weeks, makes it so I can jump in any direction possible. So, to Kelly Ann, I say thanks,” Patel said.

While the cafe had used many plant-based recipes already, Patel, who started living a vegan lifestyle five years ago, said his goal is to eliminate the few non-vegan ingredients, like honey and collagen.

Everything will continue to be prepared fresh using locally sourced ingredients, including its smoothies, acai bowls, soups, sandwiches, avocado toast, granola and cold-pressed juices. He also plans to add new items to the menu, such as coffee, hot sandwiches, baked goods and possibly vegan omelets. Gluten-free options will also be available.
