Bucs sign defensive back Ross Cockrell to a two-year deal

TAMPA ― Ross Cockrell was a valuable part of the Bucs secondary during Tampa Bay’s run to the Super Bowl. On Tuesday he was rewarded with a two-year contract.
Cockrell, 29, joined the Bucs last season as a member of the practice squad and played in 12 games, starting two. He recorded 11 tackles, including one for loss, and added one quarterback hit and one pass defensed.
Cockrell played a combined 95 defensive snaps in wins over Detroit and Atlanta to end the regular season. He played in all four postseason games, including Super Bowl 55.
The Bucs lost cornerback Ryan Smith to free agency after he signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Cockrell has played for the Bills, Steelers, Panthers and Bucs. He has seven interceptions in 81 career games.
