Bucyrus boys, Galion girls win inaugural Wynford Winter Classic bowling tournament
BUCYRUS — Nine boys teams and six girls teams played in Saturday's inaugural Wynford Winter Classic baker tournament at Suburban Lanes.
Each team bowled 16 baker games and the winner was decided by highest total pin count at the end.
On the boys side, Bucyrus edged Liberty-Benton by just 42 pins to take home the first Winter Classic trophy while Galion bested Liberty-Benton by 160 pins for the girls title.
Boys Results
Bucyrus started out strong, bowling 203, 233, 204 and 219 in the first set of baker games for an 859. The second set was even better with games of 227, 246, 165 and 223 for an 861. Another strong four games in the third set gave the team total 840 before a dip in the final four games (180, 195, 188, 215) rounded out the scoring for a 3,336.
Liberty-Benton rolled the high baker game of the day with a 247 but finished with a team total of 3,294 for second. Host Wynford placed third with a 2,964.
Kenton was fourth (2,776), Marion Harding - Red fifth (2,683), Crestline sixth (2,654), Marion Harding - Black seventh (2,631), Mt. Gilead eighth (2,510) and Galion ninth (1,334).
Girls Results
The Lady Tigers continued their stellar season on the lanes by dominating the field. Not only did Galion bowl the highest baker game of the day with a 177, the team total of 2,311 was more than enough to run away with the first-ever girls trophy.
Liberty-Benton finished with a 2,151 for second, and Crestline was third (2,015). Bucyrus fourth (1,947), host Wynford fifth (1,893) and Mt. Gilead sixth (1,825).
