Bucyrus grain truck driver electrocuted in Ashland County

ASHLAND — A Bucyrus man was electrocuted while operating a grain truck south of Ashland on Wednesday.

Travis Scott, 43, Bucyrus, was pronounced dead Wednesday at UH Samaritan Medical Center, according to Jenny Taylor, an investigator for the Ashland County coroner's office, which is handling the investigation.

Deputies were called to the 1000 block of Township Road 1806 at 9:56 a.m., according to a news release from the Ashland County Sheriff's Office. They found a man had been "electrocuted while operating a grain truck near the road when the auger attached to the truck was inadvertently maneuvered into the electric wires," according to the news release.

In a 911 call obtained from the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, a man asked that an emergency squad be sent to 1053 Township Road 1806, "quick as you can."

"We had a feed truck guy that hit a power line with his boom," the caller said. During the 911 call, he attempted to perform CPR, following the dispatcher's instructions.

Scott was delivering a load of grain for his employer at the time, Taylor said.

The site is in a rural area between Ashland, Hayesville and Mifflin.

Ashland County deputies and members of the Hayesville and Ashland emergency squads attempted CPR on the man, but he did not survive, the news release states.

Scott's body has been taken to the Cuyahoga County medical examiner's office for an autopsy, Taylor said. "It will take a while for those results to come back," she said.
