Bucyrus shootout suspect Jacob Davidson captured in West Virginia

The man charged in a Veterans Day shootout with Bucyrus police, who escaped from a mental health hospital last week, has been arrested in West Virginia.

Jacob Dan Davidson, 38, of Centerburg, was arrested in Chapmanville, West Virginia, by West Virginia State Police at 10:34 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the Crawford County Sheriff's Office.

Davidson, 38, escaped from Twin Valley Behavioral Health Hospital on Columbus' west side on Thursday, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol, which holds jurisdiction over Twin Valley. The highway patrol told WBNS-10TV that Davidson exited through a window.

He is being held in West Virginia's Southwestern Regional Jail awaiting extradition to Ohio, according to the West Virginia State Troopers’ office.

Davidson was transferred from the Crawford County Jail to Twin Valley on Dec. 20, according to the sheriff's office news release.

The Crawford County Common Pleas Court clerk's website records show that Davidson, 15715 Sinkey Road, Centerburg, was indicted by a grand jury on Nov. 15 on charges of felonious assault, a first-degree felony; disrupting public services, a fourth-degree felony; improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, and discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, a third-degree felony.

He was ordered held on a $2 million bond, according to the news release from the sheriff's office.

Davidson is also a suspect in Licking County for firing upon and damaging a public utilities station, according to Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp. The Sinkey Road address is in the northwest corner of Licking County.

On Nov. 11, the Crawford County and Morrow County sheriff’s offices responded to shooting incidents in which one person was injured, according to the news release. A description of the suspect's vehicle was broadcast to local law enforcement.

Shortly after receiving that notice, Bucyrus police Officer Devin Wireman spotted a vehicle matching the description, the Telegraph-Forum reported previously. Wireman switched on his cruiser's lights, opened his door and prepared to stop the vehicle at Poplar and West Charles streets, but the SUV continued through the intersection. Wireman followed.

As the SUV approached South Spring Street, the driver stopped, and shots were exchanged before Wireman and Lt. Curt Bursby were able to arrest the shooter, later identified as Davidson. No one was injured in the shootout but one bullet struck a helmet worn by Davidson, Bucyrus police reported afterward.
