The superintendent of Bucyrus City Schools has announced his resignation.

Matt Chrispin's last day with the district will be Aug. 1, Randy Blankenship, president of the district's board of education, said Tuesday.

"He has announced today that he is going to be resigning," Blankenship said.

The board of education has scheduled a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Lincoln Administrative Center to discuss its options.

"We may have to look at doing an interim superintendent and then doing a more thorough search in the late fall-early winter time frame, then bringing someone on for the next school year," Blankenship said.

No word yet on where Matt Chrispin will be working next

Blankenship said he knows where Chrispin will be working next, but wasn't sure if it was appropriate to release that information yet.

Chrispin, who could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon, joined the district at the start of the 2019-2020 year, citing student achievement, student growth and improved graduation rates as his top goals.

He replaced Kevin Kimmel, who had accepted the superintendent position at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center after serving as Bucyrus superintendent for eight years. Chrispin, the former superintendent of the Fredericktown Local School District, was awarded a four-year contract.
